Jessner’s Peel 14% (pH 1.90) Protocol
Jessner’s Peel 14% (pH 1.90) Protocol
This is a superficial to medium-depth peel, most beneficial for individuals with extensive skin damage, problematic, or cystic acne. It is not recommended for very dry skin types or pigmented skin.*
If you have melasma, darker skin, are heavily pigmented, or have a tan, we recommend treating pigmentation first with Brilliance 55% with Kojic Acid prior to using this peel.
This peel is highly effective for severe cystic acne and back acne. It is a strong medium-depth peel, comparable to TCA 20%+. It may cause frosting upon application and will result in significant peeling. Clients should plan their schedules accordingly, as downtime typically ranges from 3 to 7 days.
Approximate Healing Timeline:
-
Day 1: Skin may appear pink or red, depending on the number of layers applied. A slightly tight sensation is common.
-
Day 2: Red to brownish discoloration may develop. The skin may feel tighter.
-
Day 3: A dry, leathery appearance is expected, with cracking around active areas (mouth, chin, nose).
-
Day 4+: Unpeeled areas turn darker brown. Peeled areas will appear pink. Skin texture will be uneven, and makeup will not effectively cover it.
Application Instructions:
-
Cleanse the skin using a Green Tea Cleanser.
-
Exfoliate with Nova Exfoliating Scrub containing Mandelic Acid, then remove.
-
Degrease the skin using a Pre-Peel Solution to defat and prepare the surface.
-
Protect sensitive areas: Apply Vaseline to areas you do not wish to peel. Avoid the eyes, lips, nostrils, and any other sensitive regions.
Peel Application:
-
Pour a small amount of Jessner’s solution into a glass container (for 1 layer).
-
Dip half of a 2” cotton pad into the solution. Rub off excess on the rim. Hold the dry half of the pad.
-
Ensure the cotton is not dripping. Gently swipe each treatment area once only.
Do not rub the same area repeatedly.
-
For a deeper peel (medical use), a second layer may be applied after 2 minutes, if needed. The client will feel stinging—this is normal and may be intense. Use a fan to ease the sensation.
-
Additional layers can be applied for deeper results. Wait 1–2 minutes between layers to allow the skin to coagulate (frosting may occur).
Only add one layer per treatment session. Proceed slowly.
-
The peel is complete when the skin has frosted (turned white).
Post-Peel Care:
-
Apply Green Tea Neutralizer to a cotton pad and liberally cover the face, then remove.
-
A Cryogenic Peel-Off Mask or cold compress can be used to soothe the skin.
-
Apply a thin layer of Hyaluronic Serum.
-
Remind the client to apply Anti-Aging Cream SPF 30 every day.
Follow-Up:
Clients may return for another treatment in 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the number of layers applied.
